This stupid idea came to mind today: to create children’s currency called WAM – a currency that will only work in Wamfie and its environs. And only children from Primary 1 -6 can use it.
Here’s how it will work:
Children earn WAM by Reading or Writing or Typing. The units of WAM are defined as:
- 10 Sent = 1 Para
- 5 Para = 1 Page
- 2 Pages = 1 Leaf
- 5 Leaves = 1 Chap
- 10 Chaps = 1 Book
- 10 Books = 1 Volume
- 10 Volumes = 1 Library
- Sent means Sentence
- Para means Paragraph
- Chap means Chapter
This is how WAM will be spent:
We will partner with local shops and food sellers to serve as spending points. Children will send their WAM there to get what they want – like books, pens, pencils, school bags, biscuits, tofi, and more. We can peg WAM to the Cedi. Example, 1 Page = 1 Cedi. So if a child takes one page of writing to a shop, she can get something equivalent to 1 Cedi.
We can set specific items for which WAM can be used to buy. At the end of the month, we will collect WAM from the shops and give them physical money in return. This will be at the blind side of the children. To them, what matters is they’ve been able to send their writing books to a shop and they got biscuit in return.

Or adey craze?
